A FIRST-HALF drubbing quickly ended Heworth ARLC's hopes of a first away win in National Conference division two as they fell 38-2 at Huddersfield Sharks.
The Villagers, who have had a problem of falling away late on in games this season, did not do so this time, but the damage was already done in the opening 40 minutes as the hosts scored five tries to lead 30-0 at the interval.
Second-row Richard Wright powered over with just two minutes on the clock and, when Colin Denby charged in six minutes later, the writing was on the wall.
Heworth, with player-coach Chris Smith leading from full-back, looked to do some damage themselves but pressure did not pay off, and after substitute Alex Brown crossed on 26 minutes, it was soon game over as Richard Flooks scored his first try and Darren Simpson the home team's fifth, David Holmes adding all five conversions.
Flooks scored two more after the break to complete a hat-trick as the Sharks, wavering of late, bolstered the promotion credentials, while Heworth's only points came from Lee Rientoul's boot ten minutes from time.
