THE consultation that the council has recently sent out about the budget invites us to make some stark choices. Should we decide not to go with the proposed council tax increases we can tick boxes to indicate where we would like to see cuts - for example from education, help for the homeless or care for the elderly.
Sadly, some key political savings appear to have been missed off.
I would like to invite readers to add their own tick-boxes to the form to indicate where they would really like to see cuts made. I suggest "Consultants", "Officer Mileage Allowances", "Parking Allowances for Councillors", "Defending Unpopular Developments at Expensive Public Inquiries", "Huge Stationary and Paper Bills" or perhaps "Lame Fireworks Displays".
I'm sure readers will be able to come up with many of their own.
