YORK Acorn Girls Under-15s kicked off their season with a heavy defeat - but praise aplenty from coach Gill Blackburn.
Acorn lost 42-0 to Chorley in their first game of the nine-a-side Girls Development League, but Blackburn said: "Seven of our players were U14s while seven of Chorley's team are Lancashire county players, and I think our team did really well."
Acorn U14s kick off their season with a tough game at Hull next week. The club also have developing girls' teams at U13s and U16s level.
