A YORK pensioner was killed after a set of traffic lights fell on to her in an horrific town centre road crash.
The accident happened outside the Harrogate Exhibition Centre in King's Road at about 3.40pm yesterday.
A 4x4 vehicle, which was travelling from Parliament Street, crashed into railings and the traffic lights pole, knocking them to the ground and hitting the woman.
The pensioner, said to be from the York area, was taken to Harrogate Hospital with serious head injuries, and she died shortly afterwards.
The driver and passenger of the 4x4, a silver Suzuki Vitara, were also taken to Harrogate Hospital. The driver was also badly hurt but their injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
Witnesses should phone PC David Priestley on 0845 6060 247.
