YORKSHIRE FORWARD is extending the support it offers to construction businesses which employ prisoners who have already partly qualified.
The scheme aims to bridge the skills gap in the building industry.
Although there is a simulated construction site at Lindholme prison on the outskirts of Doncaster, an NVQ can only be achieved from a workplace environment.
A supported work programme leading to the achievement of an NVQ level 2 in a construction related occupation has been developed by CITB-ConstructionSkills.
This will ensure that ex-offenders are able to continue their training following release from prison, under the guidance of employers.
Helen Thomson, head of inclusion and skills for Yorkshire Forward, said: "The construction skills centre at HMP Lindholme has been a huge success."
