More gentle Yorkshire antics from the Moors village of Aidensfield, as PC Nick Rhea waits anxiously for his anticipated promotion.
In the latest of the Constable books - inspiration to TV's Heartbeat - Nick encounters a press photographer who gets lost while trying to find a cameraman, a party of day-trippers stuck in a field and, while dealing with a hoard of silver in the thatched roof of a cottage, psychic cows, ghostly racecourses and clever sheepdogs.
Claude Jeremiah Greengrass splashes out on a colourful new car, and Nick has a run-in with a farmer whose vehicles are smothering the lanes with mud.
An old-fashioned joy, and a great Christmas stocking-filler for fans of the constable.
