POCKLINGTON RUFC pulled off a surprise 13-7 victory at Driffield.
Both sides took the opportunity to blood promising youngsters and Pocklington had the day's top performer in fly-half Henry Mitchell, who put in a big defensive display in addition to scoring all his side's points - taking him to 102 for the season.
He opened the scoring with a couple of penalties before extending the visitors' lead as Pocklington produced the best move of the day on the half hour. They got left winger Sam Allen free on halfway and centre Guy Hope was in support to send Mitchell over to touchdown and convert.
Driffield had hardly had a look in. Their forwards were held up over the line before they turned the screw and were awarded a penalty try when the scrum collapsed in the mud.
But any thoughts Driffield had of taking control were soon dashed as Pocklington retained territorial advantage throughout the final quarter.
Mitchell saw another penalty effort curl a foot wide, while Pocklington flanker Steve Wilcock thought he was clear only to be denied by some outstanding defence by Driffield flier Ali McClarron.
