HI-FI specialist Bang & Olufsen of York is launching a campaign to find its oldest product still in circulation in the region.

The campaign by the store in East Parade, Heworth, in partnership with its sister store in Station Parade, Harrogate, forms part of worldwide celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the Danish company.

Richard Staples, the manager of the York store, has already unearthed an old BeoLit 500 radio dating from 1967.

Now he is asking customers to search their homes, garages and lofts to unearth a genuine piece of Bang & Olufsen nostalgia that could win them a case of champagne and an exclusive Bang & Olufsen history book signed by Jens Bang, of the Bang family.

Bang & Olufsen has evolved from its first product in 1926 - the Bang & Olufsen Eliminator, an aggregate that would connect a battery receiver to the mains and ensure noise free power to a radio - to its latest range of state-of-the-art stand-alone and integrated home cinema, music and telecommunications products.

Richard said: "It's interesting to see just how many of the older products are still in circulation.

"We have a TV in store that was launched back in the 80s but remains very popular. It's just about to go out of production, and people are always surprised when I tell them how long it's been around, because its looks to have hardly dated."

If you have a Bang & Olufsen product that you think could qualify for the title of "oldest product", phone 01904 423704 before the end of next month.
