If New Year success is about making the biggest impact in the quickest possible time then Selby Town substitute Tom Matthews is surely the one to watch in 2006.
Matthews entered the fray at Flaxley Road on 73 minutes with the Robins already 1-0 up against Hallam. And just 15 seconds later he was racing back towards the bench - having scored with his first touch to crush Hallam's hopes of a comeback.
It was the Sheffield side who had risen to the challenge from the off with 20 minutes of hard pressure on Adam Mitchell in the Selby goal, which included Anthony Wilson rattling the corner of the post and bar with 15 on the clock.
But the Robins weathered the storm and clawed their way back, Steve Rollinson chesting the ball down to Adam Wash, who forced Martin Taylor in the Hallam goal to tip onto the bar and behind for a corner.
Minutes later, a Kris Littler free-kick was nodded down by Matty Wain for Wash to finish with true striker's panache.
That was on 24 minutes and Chris Kamara threatened to stretch the lead just before half-time with a quality directed header from a Tosh Reid punt going the wrong side of the post.
Hallam ran out for the second half with intention etched all over them as sliding tackles went in all over the pitch and Bill Morley saw a weak, bobbly shot cleared off the line by Selby skipper Andrew Cox.
At the other end, Wash dived head first at a Steve Rollinson cross from the right that hung perfectly until he charged into the box with the 'keeper well beaten.
But his direction was off and it was left to supersub Matthews to secure the points that shuffles Selby further up the table to seventh.
Harrogate Railway slipped down to fourth after a last-minute strike by Liversedge's Chris Walton gave the second-placed hosts a 1-0 win.
Pickering Town leapfrogged Rail into third despite only managing a 1-1 draw at lowly Glasshoughton Welfare.
James Drinkall's strike on the stroke of half-time put them in the driving seat but Adam Sadler fired in an 83rd-minute equaliser.
Hopes of Goole starting the new year in the same form as they ended 2005 were dashed by Belper Town in a 2-0 result that drops Goole down to 16th in the UniBond League division one table.
Ben Jones added the fireworks in Harrogate Town's second encounter with Leigh RMI in eight days as he put two past his old club - the first after dribbling through the box with just 26 seconds on the board.
His second and Town's third on 21 minutes was a header from a Danny Holland cross following a Roy Hunter free kick.
Holland himself had already pounced on an attempted header back to Leigh 'keeper John Lamb to make it 2-0 inside nine minutes.
