I FEEL I must write in defence of the nurses and staff on the ward for elderly patients at York District Hospital.

I spent a week in their care in November and was very well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

The food was atrocious. On one menu, soup was advertised and so I ordered it. Looking forward to a bowl of soup I was given a cup-a-soup in a plastic vendor cup. But there is no way that the nurses could be blamed for that.

They work hard and long, demanding hours. Their patience never seems to run out.

They take and deliver messages on the phone from relatives and pass them on to patients.

They were very good to me and I appreciate everything they did for me.
