It being the season of Christmas conundrums, I think we can work out what happened to Mr Wyatt on his visit to the Treasurer's House (Letters, January 2).
Mr Wyatt didn't realise that he only needed to pay £2 for the evening and fed £3.90 into the machine. The machine took the required £2 for the evening parking and then allocated the overpayment of £1.90 to allow parking the following morning from 08:00 to 09:27 (mis-read as 9.27pm by Mr Wyatt).
Mr Wyatt's sentiments regarding evening parking charges are admirable - what a pity he gave the council even more cash than it wanted.
