Once again I am impelled to vent my spleen through your letters column. I write as the cumulative result of various mindless acts of destruction in my locale over a long period of time, not merely as a gripe over the latest incident which occurred overnight on Monday.

On departing for work on Tuesday morning I found a sign from the barber's shop in Fourth Avenue, York, placed over the windscreen of my car and the driver's door mirror smashed by a brick taken from a pile in front of one of my neighbour's houses.

I would be most interested to know if the moron(s) who perpetrated this mindless act of vandalism regard this as some form of fun and, if so, can they explain what possible pleasure they derive from it? I would, of course, appreciate an apology and recompense from them or their keepers, but realistically don't expect a response of any kind.

It is always possible that they may have some perceived grievance against myself or my family. If this is so, then perhaps they may wish to appraise us of this so that we may move toward a resolution of the problem, but I also doubt that is the case.

Sadly, I feel that this epistle will merely serve to assuage my anger, and relieve some of the stress caused. I will say that as long as I am conducting myself in a reasonable and lawful manner I see no reason to alter my lifestyle or practices to prevent the actions of these idiots. If people choose this route then the result is the end of community life.
