I was pleased to read (Evening Press, January 4) that Coun Andrew Waller and council bosses are grateful for the participation of York residents in the controversial "twin bin" rubbish collection.
It seems the city council aims for a 50 per cent increase on the current recycling collection rate when plastic bottles and cardboard are included in kerbside collection.
Can we take it that if this target is successfully reached, there will be no need for the incinerator that Coun Waller was seen to be advocating on TV recently?
If not, the cost of building this monstrosity to acceptable environmental standards would soon wipe out the £359,000 saved by diligent recycling.
The proposed charge of £5 for disposal of an old fridge would not be unreasonable, but any increase on current cremation charges would be abhorrent.
