POCKLINGTON RUFC completed a memorable Yorkshire Two double over West Park with a 13-8 away victory.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a superb try. Right wing Rob Jackson was set free in midfield at top speed and he ghosted through with a curving run to the side of the posts for Sandy Mitchell to add the conversion.
Centre Guy Hope and winger Tim Nixon wereprominent for Pocklington with incisive running and Nixon's charge at the heart of the home defence paved the way for a Mitchell penalty.
West Park trimmed the arrears with former Great Britain international Jimmy Lowes on target with his second penalty attempt.
West Park then caught Pocklington napping with a quick tap penalty to cut the gap to two points.
Pocklington's tenacious defence held firm as West Park threw everything at them in the closing stages.
While Pocklington had one man sent to the sin bin, West Park saw three players yellow carded in addition to them being marched back on a number of occasions for arguing with the referee.
Pockington's industrious forwards kept going to the end, skipper Matt Atkinson and flanker Steve Wilcock leading the way.
Mitchell kicked another penalty with ten minutes to go. That proved crucial as West Park scorned a couple of kickable penalties to go for a try but Pocklington held them up over the line in injury time.
