THERE was a shock defeat for the premier division leaders as the top three sides were beaten in the first Leeper Hare York and District League programme of the year.

And all three of the high-riding sides were leading at one time in their respective games.

Top of the table Dringhouses were 3-1 ahead against St John's College just after the hour mark thanks to a Mark Woodward goal and two penalties from Lee Bond.

But they were then hit by a barrage of four goals in the space of 14 minutes and though Woodward pulled a goal back for Dringhouses they were beaten 5-4.

Alex Brisley, Robin Bedford Neil Fryers (2) and Michael Firek scored for the students.

Second-placed Nestl Rowntree led through a Danny Leach penalty, but Thorpe United won with two goals from Shane Singleton.

Darren Brandon gave Wigginton Grasshoppers, who were third in the table, a half-time lead at home to Old Malton.

They held it until the second minute of injury time when Phil Hill equalised. Three minutes later a goal from a Nicky Drew free kick gave the Malton side all three points.

Wigginton have dropped to fourth place, with Thorpe United moving up to third.

Two goals from Chris Harkin stretched Tate & Lyle Selby's unbeaten run to five games as they won 2-0 at home to Haxby.

Eighteen-year-old Joe Waines scored his first goal for Dunnington to give his side the lead at Huntington, but Lee Jackson levelled matters before the interval.

Then Steve Hadden restored the lead for Dunnington seven minutes from time, but they were denied all three points when ex- York City player Iain Dunn salvaged a point for Huntington with a header.

Terry Hibbitt and Graeme Butcher scored for Copmanthorpe in their 2-2 draw with Bishopthorpe.
