FISH, chips and raffle tickets have given the Guardian Angels appeal an £800 boost.
Margaret Garnett runs a Christmas raffle every year at the Poppleton Road Fish Bar, in York, raising money for local causes.
This year she decided to help the £300,000 appeal.
"The two paediatric high-dependency rooms the appeal is trying to raise money for are desperately needed in the children's ward," she said.
"When you read stories about our children and people having to go out of the city to get treatment you realise it's just not on.
"We should have all these facilities in York."
Margaret's raffles have previously helped pay for life-saving heart monitors and osteoporosis equipment. This year, customers won prizes such as a TV and DVD player, a large hamper and a stereo system. All prizes were donated by staff, family and friends.
