Tadcaster Albion took their unbeaten run in Northern Counties East League division one to eight matches last night after defying a gale-force wind to beat Retford United 2-1.
Albion faced the wind in the first half and were quite happy to go in at half-time trailing only to a 28th-minute Mark Shaw shot from 25 yards out which deceived Brewers' goalkeeper Tom Ryder.
Tadcaster had the chance to equalise on the hour when Joe Gaughan was brought down by Retford 'keeper Chris Kingston. He dusted himself off and took the resulting penalty only for the 'keeper to make amends by saving it.
Albion did however equalise in the 71st minute with an Andy Battersby header at the far post.
Tadcaster's winner came with ten minutes remaining when Dale Waddington's cross-cum-shot from near the touchline got the wind behind it and sailed over the 'keeper.
The NCEL League Cup ties featuring Pickering Town, Selby Town and Harrogate Railway were all postponed.
