MEALS-on-wheels or not, that is the question. Whether the WRVS should deliver the hot dinners twice weekly or not.
If not, should the members, on the recommendation of the officers of the City of York Council, vote on Thursday, to hand over to food supplier Apetito, for them to deliver frozen dinners?
If this is carried, has anyone confirmed that the elderly people have both a freezer and a microwave and that they are fully conversant with the usage. But, what if they don't have the equipment?
And having handed over to Apetito, will they have carte blanche on prices etc, or will there be council supervision on cost and suitability?
Sixty-five years ago this country needed these people and they answered the call. So to the members I would say, please don't let them down.
In June my friend will be 78 and I will be 80 years old, so we know what that means to them, because we still deliver meals-on-wheels.
Miss Winnie Starkey,
