I READ with interest your report on the move of Norwich Union Call Centres to India (January 5).
It's all very good for those people living in India to be employed with wages that would be classed as a pittance here in the United Kingdom - but which are acceptable in that country with the material benefits that go with the package.
What it failed to report on was the number of people in this country who were put out of work because of these moves and the hardship they endured.
The legacy that Norwich Union and The Helmsley Group have left behind is the hideous architectural failure of the Norwich Union building at Monks Cross, which looks even worse now it has been painted (that's if it has) in those garish colours. What a welcome to York for visitors from the northern ring road to see this appear on the horizon.
