IT'S terrible, isn't it? A cockerel has the audacity to crow at daybreak ("Cock-a-doodle don't", January 11).

Who are these strange people who move to a countryside location and then complain about countryside noises?

And what a waste of taxpayers money that City of York Council actually become involved with the ludicrous complaint.

If the complainants would rather hear traffic noise, they should live near a main road. If they want a cleaner, healthier, rural environment they should shut up and put up with the normal rural activities and sounds.

Didn't they do any research before they bought their rural residence? Didn't they realise that a rural environment involves livestock with all the sounds and smells which emanate from them? What on earth is wrong with these whingers? It's akin to those who buy a property next to an airfield and then complain about the noise of the aircraft.

Common sense should prevail here without the waste of any further time or money by the council. For goodness sake, leave the rooster and all other livestock alone to get on with what they do best.
