DETECTIVES said today that there had been a "good response" from the public in relation to the York jewellery heist.
The Evening Press reported yesterday that three men armed with a handgun and hammers threatened staff at Harpers Jewellers in Minster Gates before making off with a haul of watches. The raid had similarities with a robbery at the same jewellers on August 20 last year in which an armed gang from Estonia made off with £212,000 worth of watches.
Detective Inspector John Reed said several members of the public had come forward to report seeing three men "putting clothing on" prior to the raid and later running through two areas of the city centre.
It is believed the raiders, who may be Eastern European, could have dispersed in different directions afterwards.
