APPLEFIELDS School, York, has been named an FA Charter Standard School following a successful year developing football for all age groups.
The FA charter standard programme supports schools at all levels keen to use football as a means of providing physical education and extra curricular activities for boys and girls of all ages and abilities.
In addition to football in the curriculum Fourth Avenue-based Applefields enjoys a link-up with Copmanthorpe football Club which provides regular sessions.
Head of PE, Chris Walmsley, who is pleased that the school's hard work has not gone unnoticed, said: "We are delighted with this recognition, which is thanks to the support from a number of partners including Oaklands Sports Partnership, the North Riding FA and Copmanthorpe Football Club."
Plans are in place to develop further links with other special schools across North Yorkshire to encourage inter-schools matches.
