York Racecourse is to stage a new top quality race this year, it was announced today.
The one and a quarter mile event, with £100,000 prize money, will be run on Saturday, July 29 and will be shown live on Channel Four.
The race, formerly known as the Scottish Derby and run at Ayr, has been given Group Two status by the European Pattern Committee.
This makes it one of the top fifty Flat races in Britain and the eighth race of this standard to be run on Knavesmire.
The Symphony Group Acomb Stakes is being upgraded to Group Three level, giving the Ebor Festival (August 22,23,24) eight races at this grade or higher.
