IT is a matter of regret that Mr Turner's choice of words in response to the news item in which I featured completely missed the point of the article.

This was that I believe Asda should provide more parent and child parking places in order to improve safety at its car park (Letters, January 14).

To me safety is of paramount importance. The owner of an R-registered black Mondeo has a broken headlight as evidence of the danger in which he placed my children.

In regard to any suggestion that I had left the children unattended, the legal definition of "attended" is that I have to have the children in my sight and be in a position to act if there is a threat to them. In this respect, I managed to grab the trolley as the car hit it but failed to stop. Therefore, they were attended.

Mr Turner writes about inconsistencies in the original feature yet his reply is full of them. At no point have I, or the article, blamed Asda. It simply points to the need for more parent and child parking places bearing the size of the car park in mind.

I accept Asda's subsequent comments but my point remains unchanged. The photograph of the "tribe of children" was set up at the suggestion of the Evening Press photographer in order to emphasise the fact that many children visit Asda with their parents.

His concluding sexist remarks are not worthy of comment. My only advice would be that if in future he does not have anything constructive to write he does not put pen to paper.

Mrs G E Bell,

Albert Close,

Huntington, York.
