MR Stainton would have been hard pressed to find Roman Walls in York to circumnavigate (Letters, January 14).
As I understand it, our walls are mainly medieval with Victorian overtones.
The remains of any Roman walling would be buried deep beneath the Minster. He would be better advised to find the start to the remains of Hadrian's Wall between Lancaster and Newcastle and be prepared for a very long walk.
Major John FitzGerald,
Heworth Village,
