The final round of the Yorkshire Winter League saw Waterline Wibsey confirm their dominance with another win in an inauspicious finale.
With the Ouse between Hunters Lodge and Linton still carrying some cold water, fish were hard to come by and bites were at a premium.
Andy Hampson (Hirst Tackle) topped a good day for his side with four anglers in the top six. Despite the individual heroics though, it was the team performance of Waterline Wibsey that won through.
Hampson was pegged 295 at the bottom of the Linton section and made sure his end-peg advantage paid off.
Targetting perch at ten metres, he offered chopped worm for 5lb 8oz of fish to a pound. The rest of the field relied upon small roach for their modest nets.
It was pleasing to see float anglers enjoying a good share of the spoils and most of the top-placed anglers used either stick-float or slider.
Dave Pollitt (Hirst Tackle) was second from peg 259 in the middle section at Linton, where he fished a big stick float in the 15-foot deep peg. Feeding maggot and caster, he netted around 60 roach for his bag of 4-14oz.
Craig Turbitt (Waterline Wibsey) had top weight for the winners with another roach net of 4-7oz from peg 224 below the bungalows at Hunters Lodge.
Best of the rest were: Keith Hobson (Hirst Tackle) 4-5; Mick Doyle (Leeds Angling Centre) 4-3 and Paul Clarke (Hirst Tackle) 4-0.
Teams: Waterline Wibsey 74; Hirst Tackle 70; Anglers World Holidays 62.
Final League positions: Waterline Wibsey 11; Hirst Tackle 13; Anglers World Holidays 16.
Barnsley-ace Keith Hobson enjoyed a five-point haul on the Yorkshire Ouse, taking full advantage of some profitable float-fishing conditions.
With river levels back to normal, the float men were to the fore and years of practice on the Trent circuit paid off.
Hobson triumphed in the 52-peg Millbridge Fisheries event at Thorpe Underwood and Widdington. Drawn on peg 44 at Widdington, he set about the 15-feet deep peg with a big 'Topper' float fished in conjunction with a long rod. Feeding sparingly with bronze maggots, he soon had the roach interested and went to tempt around 50 fish to 8oz for a winning bag of 8lb-11oz.
Conditions were harder the following wind-lashed day, but he still managed to add another point to his Kamasan haul by taking fourth place in the final round of the Yorkshire Winter League.
Drawn on the same bank as the previous day, he used identical tactics for another roach net of 4-5 from peg 13 at Thorpe Underwood.
Moor Monkton fishery, Carpvale, has been frozen for a while and the fish have obviously missed their regular weekend feed.
The Sunday Open saw some good weights led by a fine 68lb 8oz from Bernard Guy. Drawn on peg 27, he had a superb net of tench with fish to over 7lb falling to pole and maggot.
Venue expert Mick Addinall was second from peg 34, where he used pole and corn to tempt carp to 8lb for 46-8oz.
