YORK Corinthians football club are hosting a charity sportsman's dinner to raise money for schoolchildren in Africa.
The event to mark the tenth anniversary of the club is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, at York Racecourse.
All the money raised will go towards improving conditions at a school in Meuda, Mozambique. The school, whose plight was recently highlighted in the Evening Press, need a new generator to allow pupils more study time in the classroom.
Guest speaker at the dinner is former Burnley and Bolton Wanderers footballer Paul Fletcher, who is a director of the new Wembley Stadium. Great Britain rugby league captain Lee Crooks, the former York RL coach, will be MC for the evening.

Haigh's brace
Top-drawer team-work put York City Ladies Under-14s back on the winning trail with a 3-0 defeat of leaders Bradford City.
Lauren Haigh opened the scoring on 21 minutes with Abby Shoobridge following up deep into time added on at the end of the first half.
Bradford responded with all guns blazing in the second half and York goalkeeper and player of the match Jessica Tucker pulled off several outstanding saves to keep Bradford at bay.
Haigh then got her second and the team's third on 55 minutes.
Table manners
TABLE tennis coaching is available for children and young people who want to learn how to play.
The session is from 5.30pm to 7pm every Friday during term time at Millthorpe School and is run by the Yorkshire and District Table Tennis Association coaching and development officers Malcolm Haswell and Tim Smith.
A second session, led by Selby-based coach Mick Wilcockson, follows from 7pm-9.30pm for more advanced junior players at a cost of £30 per term.

Futsal future
Teams looking to turn their skills to futsal are being given a chance in Selby with new leagues kicking off next month.
All ages from under-12 to U16, plus men's and women's teams, will be catered for with the leagues acting as qualifying for the FA Futsal Cup.
