I AM delighted to see that Stagecoach Youth Theatre York has been saved due to a generous donation by a local businessman (January 18) but I am extremely disgusted by City of York Council's decision to reduce its funding to Stagecoach (and to completely withdraw it in 2009).
This organisation gives young people the chance to take part in professionally produced productions at different theatres throughout the city and beyond.
Stagecoach Youth Theatre has given my daughter Scarlett a lot more confidence in herself and, no doubt, it has had the same effect on others who attend. It has also been instrumental in giving some the step up the ladder they need to become professional thespians.
The city council's decision is extremely short sighted as the money in question is the same as installing three parking meters in The Groves area.
