I HAVE just returned from a visit to Belgium where I am involved with a group of members of the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 in Zonnebeke. They are trying to raise money for a memorial to all Scots who fought in the 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) to be unveiled in August 2007.
While at the museum I was made aware of a project that they have started which will run until the 90th anniversary of the battle next year. This is to archive the name of everyone who fought in that battle.
It will rely on people who had a relative who fought in the battle contacting the museum, and providing them with their relative's details.
Contact details are as follows: The Passchendaele Archives, Memorial Museum, Passchendaele 1917, Ieperstraat 5, 8980 Zonnebeke, Belgium, or by email Archives@passchendaele.be
Information can also be gained through the website www.passchendaele.be or telephone 0032 51 77 04 41.
I encourage anyone who had a relative who was involved with this battle to please contact the museum, and get their relative's name listed for posterity.
For any further information you can phone me on 01904 426418 or email sanspeur@ntlworld.com
