BUS company First York has backed the suggestion of staggered kick-offs on a potential York sport 'Super Sunday' by saying they could look into augmenting their free match-day service.

Fans who support both York City and York City Knights are to miss out when the two clubs face a fixture clash on Sunday, February 12.

However, while there is unlikely to be a change of date for either match, there have been calls for the kick-off times for one or both games to be tweaked to give fans the chance to get to both games.

City's Conference game against Aldershot is due to start at 2pm, with the Knights' big season opener against Hull KR beginning just an hour later at Huntington Stadium.

The Minstermen, though, are believed to be in the process of asking the Shots if they would be prepared to kick off earlier.

And First - which already runs four free buses to every Knights home match from different areas of the city - has said it would be feasible to supplement that service to pick up extra fans from near KitKat Crescent, if there was sufficient demand.

First commercial manager Peter Edwards said: "It's something we would be prepared to look at. We would need to know what numbers would likely be involved but, technically, it would be feasible to do something."

Season ticket holders at both clubs have complained they are set to miss games they have effectively already paid for, while fans who follow both teams are upset they stand to miss seeing their favourites.

There are question marks over just how much cross-over support there is in the city, but some enthusiasts reckon this could have been a chance for general sport fans to be able to enjoy a 'Super Sunday' of watching two games one after the other.
