The resumption of Sunday racing in Britain tomorrow, after three blank weeks, looks pretty plain and may not provide the sort of thrills to quicken the pulse of anyone expect the total enthusiast.
But a certain William Carson will be looking forward to the action at Southwell all the same.
The teenage grandson - and namesake - of the five-times champion jockey, who also rode four Derby winners, partnered his first winner on this course last week aboard Golden Spectrum, and is set to team-up again with the gelding in the Bet Now At betdirect.co.uk Handicap.
Carson, who is apprenticed to Newmarket trainer Clive Brittain, is often cheered on when he rides by his famous granddad, Willie, but unfortunately, the Queen's former jockey missed young William's recent first winner, on his 38th ride, as he was on holiday.
Golden Spectrum goes into tomorrow's race with sound prospects of following-up - and providing his fresh-faced rider with his second success.
The nap vote goes to Figurative in the Text Betdirect Handicap (division two).
Alan Swinbank's charge was backed down to 9-4 favourite on his seasonal reappearance here last week, but, stepped-up to 12 furlongs on that occasion, he had to settle for fourth-place.
Back to a mile tomorrow, this promising gelding deserves another chance.
Champion jockey Jamie Spencer, turning out at Southwell on a Sunday, will be disappointed not to chalk-up at least one winner. In fact, he could well have a brace, both trained by Jamie Osborne at Lambourn.
Desperate Dan, who has run well in defeat on his last two visits here, should prove hard to beat in the Play Now At betdirectpoker.com Handicap, while recent course winner Cummiskey has every chance of obliging again in the Littlewoods Betdirect Handicap.
Over the jumps at Hereford, Malton-born jockey Andrew Tinkler can lift the Totequadpot Novices' Handicap Chase aboard Rubberdubber.
Sunday's tips:
Southwell: 12-50 Prince Of Gold, 1-20 Inaminute, 1-50 Figurative (NAP), 2-20 Hawkit, 2-50 Desperate Dan, 3-20 Cummiskey, 3-50 He's A Star, 4-20 Golden Spectrum
Hereford: 1-40 French Envoy, 2-10 Frosty Run, 2-40 Fast Forward, 3-10 Rubberdubber, 3-40 His Nibs, 4-10 Amarula Ridge, 4-40 Wyldello
Tomorrow's other meeting is at Lingfield.
