IN both your report and editorial comments about the potential re-location of Manor School to the Millfield Lane site (January 26), you included a number of factual inaccuracies that I would like to address.
First, the City of York has not taken the lead in the successful application for a targeted capital bid for a new school in York. This was the sole responsibility of the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE), which worked closely with the local authority to obtain the bid.
Second, nowhere in the original bid did the DBE propose to use the current site, as current Department For Education And Skills guidelines clearly confirm that the site is large enough for only 350 students. This is not even sufficient for the current school population!
The DBE, together with the school governors and the local authority, have worked in partnership to find a possible new site which will allow for the development of the new school over the next 50 years. You correctly stated that when the school is completed it will be a "jewel in the crown of York's educational provision".
The governors of Manor School are equally committed to taking part in a transparent and fair consultation of the new scheme.
