A FORMER University of York student whose wife and baby were found murdered was still being questioned by detectives in London last night.

Neil Entwhistle, 27, was taken from his parents' home in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, to speak to American detectives at the US embassy yesterday morning.

He had previously spoken to police by telephone after his wife, Rachel, 27, and daughter, Lillian, nine months, were found shot dead at the family home in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, on Sunday.

But it emerged last night that police had earlier visited the house on Saturday evening after being contacted by Rachel's worried family and had not found the bodies.

Forensic evidence suggested the mother and baby were killed at some point between Friday morning and Saturday night. Mr Entwhistle, a computer technician, who met his wife through York University's rowing club, is believed to have boarded a flight from Boston to London late on Friday or early on Saturday. Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley said officers were contacted by Rachel Entwistle's mother, Priscilla Matterazzo, on Saturday because she had not been able to call her daughter all day.
