I AM absolutely disgusted by the proposals affecting the present Barbican site and the Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool.

I cannot believe that the council are seriously planning to build a care home next door to the refurbished Barbican with bars and restaurants - surely a noisy environment not conducive to the care that frail, elderly people require.

And what a surprise - a "top quality" hotel on one site and a "budget" hotel on Kent Street. So once again the council are pandering to the needs of the tourist rather than the long-suffering council taxpayer!

And now that those council taxpayers who used the gym and pool at the Barbican have been forced to switch to the Edmund Wilson, we now find that that is to be shut too (presumably for development of another hotel or flats).

Are there to be new gym facilities at the new superpool? Is there to be a baby/training pool? I doubt it.

And of course there will probably be no access during school hours as this would presumably compromise the safety of the school pupils - the St Peter's School fiasco comes to mind!

I would also like to know how much all the plans and consultations cost a few years ago when the Edmund Wilson was to be refurbished. What a complete waste of money that was!

Whatever way you look at it these plans stink.

Wake up City of York Council - can't you realise that we are just counting down the days to the next council elections?
