MEMBERS of York Whitehawks roller hockey club would desperately like to see an ice-rink in York.

After our recent trip to Sheffield Ice Arena we feel there is a great demand for this facility in York.

It's proved to be a great success in Sheffield and we feel it would be here too. We arrived at the Sheffield arena to be greeted by long queues of people young and old waiting to get in. We were eventually allowed in and had a fantastic day.

The arena had a TV crew filming ice activities such as curling and speed skating. The demand for skating was continuous, and as soon as the afternoon session finished the ice was prepared for a further session of parties and school children.

After the skating, Whitehawks walked a short distance to Hallam FM Stadium to watch the Sheffield Steelers v Edinburgh Capitals ice-hockey match.

After the game we were allowed in the VIP suite to meet the players for autographs and photographs.

The whole day in Sheffield was enjoyable and the cost was reasonable.

If Sheffield can cater for their residents and visitors, then why can't York? Our kids feel there are very few leisure facilities in York.
