SINGLE mum Jane Benson said she was broadly pleased with the budget announcement, but said not enough was being done to help disenchanted youngsters.
She welcomed the 14 per cent increase in the child tax credit, and the boost to the Child Trust Fund when the child reaches seven years old, but said it should have happened long before now.
She said more should be spent on community centres, youth clubs and extra-curricular facilities.
She said: "The Child Trust Fund is one of the best things that the Government has done, because even if you do not put much in, it's getting the interest paid.
"The boost for seven-year-olds is good, but they should have done that earlier. It's better late than never though."
