Take a chance on Blythe Knight at around 28-1 in tomorrow's £110,000 William Hill Lincoln Handicap at Redcar - that's my advice as the Flat turf season finally gets into gear.

Trained at Norton by John Quinn, and one of the trainer's three runners in the 30-strong field, Blythe Knight, the mount of Graham Gibbons, has plenty going for him.

A creditable sixth to Stream Of Gold in last year's race when trained by Ed Dunlop, he also ran well in other tough handicaps like the Royal Hunt Cup and the Cambridgeshire.

Subsequently bought by Quinn for 90,000 guineas at Newmarket's end-of-season sales, he has since been gelded and, according to his trainer, has thrived in his new Ryedale base.

At home with some give in the ground, fairly handicapped and, most importantly, primed and ready for his first big test of the year, Blythe Knight looks overpriced and makes strong each-way appeal at his current odds.

Quinn will also be represented by King's Quay, a Derby runner last year when trained by Richard Hannon, who might find this ground softer than ideal, and Zomerlust, who has claims on his seven-furlong form, but who may find this straight mile stretching his stamina.

All in all, it's a fascinating race. Twelve months on from steering Stream Of Gold to victory for Sir Michael Stoute, York-based Robert Winston aims to complete an encore aboard King's Majesty, a talented and lightly-raced four-year-old, who deserves the utmost respect.

He is duelling for favouritism with Cesare, trained by James Fanshawe, and a most progressive horse last year, while third-best in the betting is Gentleman's Deal, trained by Mick Easterby and the winner of both his races on the sand since joining him from Ed Dunlop.

Kevin Ryan saddles four runners, the best of which promises to be Kamanda Laugh and My Paris, both of whom ran well at Wolver-hampton a fortnight ago.

It's obviously wide open, a real head-scratcher for punters, but Blythe Knight can pay to follow at his generous odds.

The Redcar programme kicks off with the £25,000 William Hill Spring Mile - a 'consolation' race for Lincoln entries which failed to make the cut - and again 30 runners face the starter for a lottery-type event.

Barathea Dreams took the honours last year when the race was run at Doncaster, and it would be no surprise to see Stan Moore's mudloving gelding do his stuff again under Darryll Holland.

The £30,000 williamhill.co.uk Cammidge Trophy has attracted a useful field of sprinters and nothing appeals more than Reverence, who ended last season by completing a hat-trick of wins.

Eric Alston's exciting charge, who goes well in the soft, is napped to pick up where he left off, with regular rider Kevin Darley on board.

At Newbury, make a note of Treaty Flyer in the £50,000 John Smith's Mares Only Handicap Hurdle Final.

Pat Murphy's improving five-year-old, winner of her last two starts, looks nicely weighted in her first handicap on the strength of her successes at Wincanton and Fontwell.

Also worthy of attention on this jumps card are the in-form Presenting Express (2.25) and Catterick winner Industrial Star (4.40).
