ONE of York City Knights' founding fathers, Steve Ferres, is back in rugby league.

Ferres, who as chief executive helped set up the Knights in 2002 before leaving Huntington Stadium as a hero at the beginning of last season, is back at the helm of Super League outfit Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

The former player and coach takes over as chief executive at Belle Vue from Monday, with outgoing CEO Diane Rogerson becoming executive director.

Ferres was football manager with Wakefield during their 1998 promotion year, and was instrumental in pulling the side together that kept them in Super League in the tricky first season.
