THANK you for running your article on our campaign against the proposed possible siting of York's Arc Light Centre in the Union Terrace car park.
Our concerns are the total lack of consultation by City of York Council with the local community and the fact that the proposed site does not meet some of the essential criteria outlined in the council's report.
An extra consideration to be taken into account, apart from the effect on the local residents, shops, businesses and schools, is the implication it will have on the people of York and beyond through the loss of car parking spaces.
This will particularly affect patients and visitors to the two hospitals, as Union Terrace is an overspill car park from York Hospital.
In 2002, when the coach park was being relocated, the council stressed the importance of Union Terrace car park in terms of revenue. Far from being NIMBYish and selfish about this proposal, we are looking at the much broader picture and the far-reaching implications this site could have on many hundreds of people every year.
