I AM writing to express my admiration for the way that our local Sherburn Visiting Scheme carries out its work.
I first read about the provision of transport to hospitals in the Sherburn Transport In Your Village issued by North Yorkshire County Council.
Despite ever decreasing numbers of volunteers, my husband, who is not able to get around on his own, and I have never been refused a lift to any of the hospitals that we have had cause to visit.
It is so reassuring to know that whenever either of us has to make a visit to the hospital, despite the fact that neither of us are able to drive any distance, we know that we shall be able to get there.
The people at the other end of the phone are always courteous, helpful, and above all efficient. We know that we can rely on them.
While we have only used their services for hospital visits they not only provide an essential taxi service but also run trips to places of interest, entertainment, seaside resorts, and meals out.
They send out cards and diaries and a newsletter at Christmas. It is such an excellent service that I feel they deserve recognition for the work they carry out, to highlight the need for more volunteers.
