WING star Peter Fox is delighted to be back at his home-town club - but has not given up hope of making it as a Rhino.

The 21-year-old flier returns to York City Knights training tonight for the first time since his club record 25 tries in a season helped the club win LHF National League Two last season.

As revealed in Saturday's Evening Press, he has rejoined on a one-month loan deal from Leeds Rhinos and, while he admitted being frustrated at his lack of first-team chances at Headingley, hoped this move would be good for his development.

"I'm happy to be back," he said. "I've always had a place in my heart for York since last year.

"This will be a new level for me in National League One and hopefully it will further my development. It's a better standard than NL2 so I can test myself more and prove to Leeds that I can do it at this level. I want to develop as a player and get more experience and this will help.

"I've been training really hard (at Leeds) and learning from the coaches and players, but I've just not been given the chance really. It's very frustrating. I've been really patient waiting for my chance but this move will hopefully be good for everybody."

Asked if he was likely to stay longer than the initial arrangement, Fox said: "I'm staying for one month and we will look at it after that.

"I want to become a main part of the team and help the team do well. The top teams in NL1 will be a big step up as they're all pushing for Super League but it's a good test for us."

Fox said he had no try-scoring aims for this new spell at Huntington Stadium, despite his record-breaking efforts last term as well as his excellent start to the season in Leeds' Under-21s Academy - he has scored four tries in the last two games, including two length-of-the-field efforts.

"I'm looking to bring that to York and I want to work hard. I just want to bring enthusiasm to the team and do my job as a player as well as possible," he said.

"I want to be part of the team, though I don't really want to push players out. I will start training tonight and we'll go from there. I'll train hard and take it as it comes.

"I'll still be working closely with Leeds every day and Tony Smith (Rhinos coach) will be looking at how I'm getting on during the week and get updated with how I'm playing.

"Hopefully I will play well, which will help me get a chance at Leeds."
