THE Robards/Ford campaign in support of the expansion of York University (Robards Report, March 15 and Letters, March 25) misses one wider point. Students are beginning to realise that lifetime earnings expectancy does not justify taking on heavy front-end student debt.

Added to the fact that it is scarcely believable that there are any more university-standard students out there, the inevitable outcome is that York will expand at the expense of other institutions. This will render one or more unviable.

Who allocates the finance for such a potentially destructive process?

Chris Houseman,

Water End,

York.
