THE York Primary Schools' football league season has been extended by two weeks to May 5 to give teams a chance of getting as many games played as possible.

League 'A' is approaching fingernail-biting territory, with four teams in the running for the title. Bishopthorpe have the upper hand at the moment but Clifton Green, Ralph Butterfield and Westfield all lie in wait for their chance.

Copmanthorpe are the only ones to complete their fixtures so far but have had a disappointing season.

League 'B' is becoming a two-horse race between Clifton and Yearsley Grove, with Clifton enjoying three big wins, despite losing to Yearsley.

Who can play the most games could well end up the key in league 'C', where St Wilfrid's and Wigginton are both in with a shout of toppling current leaders Huntington.

Runaway league 'D' leaders Headlands suffered a 6-1 defeat to Dunnington to throw doubt on the destination of that title.

Acomb are sitting proudly at the top of league 'E' with four wins from four games, including a 3-1 win over New Earswick. Tang Hall are ready to pounce on a slip-up.

Unbeaten Osbaldwick still lead the way in league 'F', with Skelton leading the chase after beating other challengers Fishergate 4-0 last week.

Copmanthorpe 'B' have stacked up 21 points while completing their fixtures but must now sit and watch as Ralph Butterfield 'B' and Clifton Green 'B' close in.

St Aelred's are through to the quarter-finals of the Primary Cup after beating Haxby Road 3-1.
