SELBY Warriors ARLC go in search of cup silverware on Saturday knowing their promotion hopes in Pennine League division four are now hanging by the merest thread.
The Warriors hammered bottom club Thornton last week in their last league game to go to the top of the table but, crucially, title rivals Wyke won their match by an even greater margin, 84-1 against Slaithwaite Saracens to stay within a point of the top.
That means if Wyke and third-placed Littleborough both win their final games, they will knock the Warriors out of the promotion zone - and their final games are both against whipping boys Thornton.
The Warriors can gain consolation, however, in the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy in which they visit Hoyland Vikings in a semi-final tie this weekend. Hoyland are in the division above but lie in the bottom half with a few games to catch up on.
New Earswick All Blacks continue their march towards promotion to the premier division away to Victoria Rangers, while Heworth 'A' play their penultimate game in Yorkshire League division three at home to Upton 'A'.
