A 32-year-old man from town was killed when his motorbike collided with a car on the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough.
Police said the victim's red and white Kawasaki bike was in collision with the Ford Mondeo at Pond Hill at 3.40pm yesterday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mondeo, a 57-year-old man from the Solihull area, was left shaken, but uninjured, following the crash. Traffic officers closed the stretch of road for more than four hours. Anyone who witnessed the crash should phone police on 0845 60 60 247.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old father suffered serious head injuries when his cycle hit a tree during a ride out with his son and other riders, on a minor road south of Malton.
Police said the man, from the Beverley area, came off his bike on a downhill stretch near a farm in Fridaythorpe. His son also crashed, but escaped with minor injuries.
