THE A64 dual is turning into the A64 duel.

This road should have been built at least 25 years ago. Although this problem has been with us for all that time, there is a difference between then and now. Most cars then were of a modest size, not like now, with the MPVs and 4x4s.

Would it be possible to work out how much petrol is wasted in traffic jams - not to mention pollution and frayed tempers? Would it make any difference if this situation had been "down south"?

David Lloyd-Williams stated, according to your report, that £500m is a frightening figure. I disagree and would think it is good value. To put it in perspective, it is a drop in the ocean for the money collected in road tax.

Common sense seems to be lacking. What would be wrong with doing a stretch per year - or is that too simple?

My solution to all this is to hire a coach, put transport minister Stephen Ladyman and the whole regional transport board on it, and make them do the journey every Saturday throughout the summer.

I rest my case.
