NEW Earswick All Blacks lifted the York and District Cup for the fifth year in succession last night by beating York Acorn 'A' in the final at Heworth's Elmpark Way.
Substitute full-back Lee Malpas, in only his second appearance after joining from Hunslet Old Boys, was man of the match as a superb second-half show turned a 10-6 interval lead into a 34-6 win.
The victory was marred by a broken ankle to All Blacks prop Eddie Keeping after just ten minutes.
His side were 6-0 up by then, Keeping and Dan Wellard having sent teenage winger Dean Smith racing in, James Sanderson goaling.
Acorn scrum-half Kev Brundrett equalised with a converted try on the half-hour mark, but All Blacks soon retook the lead as Malpas sent Wellard in and they dominated the second half.
Ben Jones sent Malpas over, San-derson converting, and after goaling a penalty, scrum-half Jones broke to send outstanding loose-forward Jez Petch away and he in turn put Mick Harrison over to make it 22-6.
The game was sealed in the last five minutes as Mark Tipping and impressive second-row Al Davison crossed, Jones converting both.
