ROLAWN, Europe's largest turf grower based in Elvington, has been awarded a patent for its turf coolers.
The high-tech coolers, designed, developed and built in-house, have been used to help increase Rolawn's market share.
As turf is a highly perishable product, the coolers enable shelf life to be extended, which is a major benefit to stockists in periods of warm weather. Paul Dawson, Rolawn's managing director, said that the invention was the result of years of investment.
He said: "The Rolawn turf coolers' unique 'air flow feature' extends the shelf life of our Medallion turf significantly longer than a normal refrigerated container, resulting in less waste and greater sales for our stockists.
"We are the only company to offer this facility."
