I am writing to you having suffered the nauseating tripe served up by Andrew Marr "celebrating" the Queen's 80th birthday (The Queen At 80, BBC1, April 16).
Marr's was a most sycophantic and unbalanced view and, frankly, makes one wonder what has become of modern journalism.
The programme gave a view of a flawless sovereign who, against all the odds, smiles through wind and rain and takes an interest in everyone. It failed to notice her appalling behaviour following the death of Diana, the fact that her husband offends most people he meets, and that her grandson thinks it amusing to dress as a Nazi.
The programme only served to illustrate that members of the Royal family are completely outmoded, out of touch, and that an elected president, publicly accountable, would be a far more suitable head of our democratic nation. I wonder what your readers felt of this programme.
Up the republic!
