I DISAGREE with Anne Church about the siting and suitability of York's new wheel (Letters, April 11).
Like her I prefer the past to the present, but not everyone does. Yes, York is well known and loved for all its history, museums, Roman and Viking treasures, superb old buildings and architecture; but the wheel tastefully gives the city something modern, and will bring in more visitors.
As more and more traditional places of work downsize or close, the city needs new things to attract tourists and bring money in to residents' businesses - the wheel will do that.
The city council already deters people from visiting York with its all-day-and-night parking charges and there are not enough handy car parks in and around our city. The ten-minute stay idea is worse than useless.
Siting the wheel by the National Railway Museum (NRM) is fine - it is far better there than near Clifford's Tower.
Now it is next to the "jewel in the crown" of all York's plus points, the NRM. Ancient and Modern side by side - perfect.
